Fin or Foil for Extra fun.

 

Designed for: Whether it’s foil or fin, the most important is to get on the water and have fun. The F1e is the perfect balanced sail to have great performance both when using a foil or fin under your board.

 

Concept: Developing a sail able to satisfy all needs on a foil under 15 knots and blasting on a fin from 13 knots up to 21 knots. 2 different sizes, with different concept for 2 different disciplines.

 

Its character:  2 sail sizes, (7.6 and 5.4) with different characters to satisfy 2 different disciplines.

7.6 Slalom: a full slalom sail designed to blast on any free slalom to slalom board, both for fin or foil.

5.4 Wave slalom: is a bump & jump freestyle wave designed to do tricks both on fin and foil on freestyle to free wave boards.

 

On the water:

The 7.6 will feel as great as any of our slalom sails when used with a fin. It has been cut to fit the foil, but without sacrificing the stance on a slalom board. 2 cams under the boom to give drive and stability to the foil, as well as control when powered up on a slalom. Reduced mast sleeve size over the boom makes the sail light for flying, and comfortable on a fin when maneuvering. He short boom and high aspect reduces back hand power when foiling, and this bring the sail to be enjoyable also in stronger wind when windy.

 

The 5.4 could be called the revolution in bump and jump. Bump and Jump means blasting with your freestyle wave board at high speeds in stronger winds and enjoy saw basic jumping up to looping, and nice board carving.  Imagine having a bit more drive below, a small cam, which pushes to have the extra power, stability and takes you to do all this which much more stability and control. Having a sail that pulls like a 6.0 but holds wind like a 5.0. This is how the F1E 5.4 feels on a fin. While on a foil, when the wind is light, you don’t need to look for a slight bigger sail than you would normally buy, as that extra profile given by the small cam, will give the extra power to fly on a foil in light wind, more stability for pumping the board out of the water, and as the wind is light and gusty often, the cam will provide the continues drive to the foil for the extra stability. The rotation of the cam? You will have to look if there is actually a cam in the sail!

 

Results: The right sail to have as the biggest size, with incredible range if used with both foil and fin.

 

Developed and designed by: The Point-7 Black Team. Development Target: The F1e sits in the Point-7 range as the recreational sail for both foiling and fin.  Designed specifically for fun and user-friendliness, but at the same time giving the extra edge for both uses. Having to work on a foil and on fin, you would think the sails to be compromises, but thanks to the smart set up, and wind range they will be used in, the sail will outperform any expectations.

 

Outline: In the 7.6 the outline derives from our F1 slalom foil sail, but with a cut out at the boom area, to allow comfort in higher wind range slalom. The high aspect outline allows the sail to have less back hand for foiling, and to have high speeds in slalom. The 5.4 is very similar to our Spy 5 batten wave sail, but with a slightly narrow head to reduce weight on a foil.

 

Battens: The setup of the 7.6 is exactly like our race sail, while the 5.4 meets the need to have the same set up as our 5-batten wave sail.

 

Eyelets: On both sails 2 eyelet position to enjoy windsurfing on the higher eyelet, and wind foiling on the lower eyelet. 

 

Profile:  Both sails have deep low profile to give drive and stability when flying on the foil and control in windy condition when windsurfing on the fin.

 

Foil: The foil has a deeper entry to bring power to the front. This donates control and stability to the foil, and it pins down the board in stronger wind when using

 

Clew:   The 7.6 has a small cut out clew. This to still S shape in strong conditions. Its reduced to fit better the needs of foiling. The 5.4 has a simple clew as on the wave sail. This gives the sail a bump and jump feeling and comfort.

 

Body Material:  The F1e is following the same materials as the other Point-7 sails, meaning that the 7.6 is having reactive materials to match the racing needs, while the 5.4, it has to tackle jumps, rides and why not, a nice foil crash when needed! Mostly assembled by the 4mil Anti UV-Black Laminate and X-ply. Highly responsive and light. 5mil Anti UV-Black X-ply base panel for protection from accidents. Clear monofilm window for perfect vision through the sail. Built well with a high level of detailing, it certainly stands out with use of the brand’s signature black monofilm and x-ply paneling. X-ply batten pockets for lighter weight and reflex. All our Ply, X-ply and Scrims monofilm are produced in the Unites States.

 

Rigging: The F1e having the cams, need to have the mast inserted over the cams in the mast sleeve. Downhaul 10cm to the end. Place the boom head and pull the clew. Place the cams on the mast, and pull the downhaul down to the foil settings, or 3cm for the fin setting.

 

Chief Development Comment:  We took time to come out with foils sails, as at the beginning there was just a rush to have a foil sail, by justifying a small change. We took our time as we did not want to make a recreational foil sail to be used only with foiling. We know that people will mainly use their foils in lighter winds, but then will also windsurf with the fin as the wind picks up. So our thought was to make a sail to work good with both foil and fin.
