Our most successful 5-batten sail ever is back!
Combined with the LIGHT DONE RIGHT construction and all the other construction concepts developed over the last decade, the rebirth of the DUKE becomes the new benchmark for windrange-oriented handling sails.

The rebirth of the legendary DUKE was a daunting task, requiring over 1.5 years of intensive development work.
At DUOTONE, the end user is always at the centre of our development. Therefore, especially with the new DUKE, it would have been illogical to rely "only" on input and feedback from team riders. As a starting point, we involved "real" end users who regularly use this type of sailing and our surf centres to define a bucket list for the new DUKE. And here is the result and how we approached it:

1. maximum wind range, especially in variable and/or very gusty conditions.
This is the most important factor and the biggest advantage of choosing a 5 batten handling sail. As a rule of thumb, more battens give more control and a wider wind range.
Normally this has a negative effect on planing power, as more battens make it harder for the wind to "blow up" the sail and it becomes less efficient to pump. This is why we have adopted the BATTEN FREE CENTER concept from the SUPER_HERO. Instead of the usual even batten distribution, the DUKE has a larger distance between the foot batten and the batten above the boom. This makes the boom area easier to "inflate" and increases stability in the top (due to the increased batten density in this area).
The second disadvantage is that each batten increases the weight of the sail. This is the reason why there has been a trend towards fewer battens in wave sails in recent years.

2. super light feeling in the hands without falling apart after 1-2 seasons.
The lighter weight of 4-batten sails has been the main reason for the disappearance of 5-batten sails in the last decade. Fortunately, we have made some important design improvements over the last 10 years. The result of this development was the LIGHT DONE RIGHT CONSTRUCTION, which was introduced in 2022. By replacing the usual multi-layer reinforcements with a single layer of high-tech fabric and introducing the ONE PIECE SLEEVE, we were able to reduce the overall weight by 300g. Most importantly, we are the only brand in the market where these weight savings have been achieved without reducing the thickness of the film and XPly panels. This is the only way we can continue to guarantee our unrivalled 5-year warranty.
Another problem with reducing the thickness of the foil is that the sail becomes spongy as the energy is dissipated by the increased stretch. This causes the sail to feel heavier in the hands.
So unlike others, our sails are not only lighter on the scales, but especially in your hands on the water when you use them. Because that's where it counts!

3. early planing performance even without excessive pumping
For maximum planing performance, the DUKE has an upwardly shifted pressure point combined with a deep profile that literally lifts the board when planing.

4. super neutral during manoeuvres
To make tricks and turns as easy as possible, the sail should be completely neutral in manoeuvres. That's why the DUKE has been designed with a forward pressure point. This pressure point position switches off the power and goes completely into neutral position as soon as you furl or shift the sail. This leads to a much higher success rate during manoeuvres.

5. good lift and maximum control when jumping
The higher pressure point also increases your airtime as it creates lift, while the more forward pull position helps you stay in control at all times.

6. maximum range of use
One of the biggest advantages of the DUKE is its versatility. It's pure ecstasy in bump & jump conditions on your freewave board or as a smaller sail for jumping on your freeride board. The forward/upward pressure point is also ideal for classic and even new school freestyle tricks. Last but not least, it is a great sail for medium wave and/or jump conditions, especially in gusty or difficult wind conditions. So the new DUKE is a true all-round high performance sail that will take on any handling sail.

7. intuitive and super fast rigging
With all the features, markings and tips we've developed over the last 40 years, it's safe to say that no other sail is faster and more precise to rig than a DUOTONE sail. This means that even if you're not a professional who rigs and trims your sail every day, you'll still achieve the same perfect trim. Because only with the right trim can you get 100% of the sail's performance.

8. similar feeling as with bigger freeride/performance sails
Another factor not to be underestimated is that all sails in your quiver should have a similar feel/behaviour. This is true even for pros, as even they usually need a whole day to get used to a sail that feels completely different. The main reason why sails feel different is the position of the pressure point in the sail. Fortunately, the DUKE also scores here as it has a very similar pull position to the vast majority of modern freeride sails.

So you see, we've put all our know-how and experience into creating the most sophisticated Jump N' Ride high performance sail ever.

Finally, the new DUKE comes in 2 optional constructions:
The regular DUKE has a 50% monofilm construction with all high stress areas (luff, clew, top, luff) reinforced with XPly.
The DUKE HD, on the other hand, is made entirely of XPly to give you total ripstop security.
In addition, this sail has a second lower foil-specific clew eyelet, which extends the range of use even further.
